I live in Newport News, my husband teaches in Virginia Beach, and our work as event musicians takes us from Virginia Beach to Williamsburg, so we already consider all of Hampton Roads to be “our town”. I have spent quite a bit of time in every one of the individual cities that make up the area and think that they each have different and interesting aspects that make them special. Some people resist the idea of cooperation as they are afraid of losing that “unique-ness” but my view is that the localities would become stronger with cooperation, and have a stronger voice to send out to the rest of the country about what a truly wonderful place this is.
